Jesus doesn’t leave us the same Jesus changes lives!

Our church exists to bring God glory by obeying Jesus' command to make disciples of all nations. We are convinced that a disciple is not just a believer in Jesus, but a follower of Jesus, whose life is gradually changing to reflect Jesus, with the support and encouragement of Christian brothers and sisters.

Jesus doesn’t leave us the same, Jesus changes lives!

We meet every Sunday at 11.15 am & 4.30 pm at 12 Cedar Street in Maleny, Queensland.

Our church is open to anyone who desires to attend on Sundays, and who wants to learn from God's word. There is no entry fee or special requirements for those who come along.

And for everyone who comes along, the greatest membership we want to consider is membership in the Kingdom of God

But the church itself is strengthened when Christian believers, find  themselfves committed to our local church, and descide to join our local chruch in partnership by becoming formal Church Members.

For those who are interested here are a couple of thoughts to ponder:

(1) In the Bible God holds the local church in very high esteem.

- Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. (1 Corinthians 12.27).

(2) It’s therefore very important for Christians to be committed to gathering as a local church.

- Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10.25 NIV)

(3) Our gatherings provide opportunity to love one another and build each other up in maturity in Christ.

- Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. (1 Corinthians 12.7)

- And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. (Hebrews 10.24)

(4) According to God, to be a member in a local church is to be an active, committed member of the family, working hard at loving and serving.

Becoming a formal member of our church does not mean:

(1) That somehow you become more Christian.

People enter God’s kingdom by believing in Jesus Christ, relying on his death & resurrection on their behalf to make them right before God. You cannot add anything at all to that like baptism, special gifting, or membership of our church.

(2) That you’ll be treated differently.

Every person belonging to our church family is treated the same. Pastoral care within our church family is not dependent on membership.

(3) That you have to give a certain amount of money.

There is no membership fee here. The amount of money that you contribute towards gospel ministry is between you and God. We just ask regulars who give to try to be generous, joyous, and consistent.

(4) That for the rest of your life you have to go to our church.

No. By membership people are formalising their belonging to our local church family.

(5) That you are betraying your past denominational heritage.

In a sense this is the same as the previous statement. By becoming a member you are simply indicating, in a slightly more formal way, your commitment to our local church family.

Becoming a member does mean:

(1) That you are formally and publicly expressing your commitment to be fully involved in the life of our local church.

This is a huge encouragement to the rest of the church family, and it is also a huge blessing to the individual who joins. Making promises before God and the rest of Maleny PC is a great way of strengthening your resolve to be committed to God, His people, and to the ministries of the church.

(2) That you are willingly placing yourself in a place of spiritual encouragement and protection.

In Hebrew 13:17 Christians are told to “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.”  Those who become a member,  are committing to listening to the counsel of the elders, while the elders are committing to care for them spiritually.

(3) That you could be considered for the eldership if God has given you the appropriate qualification.

Even though there are many ways that a Christian can serve here, the leadership office of elder is only open to those who are communicant members and who meet the biblical qualifications for elders.

 (4) That you can have a role in protecting the Bible-centred ministry that you are currently enjoying.

Let’s be clear. Any time that we need to replace or add ministers or elders it is only the members that have a say in the decision making and selection process.

This system is good protection for our ministry direction but it does rely on Christians being willing to become formal members.
