Our History

117 years as a Bible teaching, Community Loving Church
Maleny Presbyterian Church has been around for over a century “a while”. It’s been a bible teaching, a community-loving church that has sought to be a light on the Hinterland and bring hope to those who need it. The first Presbyterian Church Service was conducted in Maleny in 1907, starting as part of the United Church in Bunya Street. It wasn’t until 1934 that we could worship in their church at 12 Cedar Street. Over the years, many faithful men and women have loved and served the community here in Maleny to the glory of God.
In 2024, to reach more people and represent the broad background of the people of the Church, Maleny Presbyterian took on the trading name HinterlandChurch. While we want to keep our official name as Maleny Presbyterian Church, we also want to reflect that we are indeed a church not just for Maleny but the whole of the Hinterland.
If you’d like to read more of the history of the church, have a read of “Reflections on the Activities of the Maleny Presbyterian Church from 1907 to 2007”, a history composed by Mrs Margaret Hunter for the celebration of 100 years of God’s faithfulness to His people here at Maleny Presbyterian.
